On 19 May, Islamic Relief Bangladesh in collaboration with Indigenous Peoples Development Services organised a Roundtable titled “Leave No One Behind: Inclusion of Ethnic Minorities in achieving SDG 2030” at the Azimur Rahman Conference Hall, The Daily Star. The roundtable was chaired and moderated by Akmal Shareef, country director of Islamic Relief. More than 50 participants including representatives from UN agencies, lawmakers, various embassies, medias and academics attended the roundtable. Rashed Khan Menon MP and the Chairman of the standing committee of Ministry of Social Welfare, Dr. Kamal Uddin Ahmed, member of Human Rights Commission, Dr. Mesbah Kamal, Professor of History department of Dhaka University, Sohrab Hasan Joint editor of the Daily Prothom Alo and Rob Stoelman, Project Manager of UNDP were present in the roundtable as the guest speakers. The key note speakers were Sanjeeb Drong, President of Indigenous People’s Development Forum and Dr. Suchita Sharmin, Professor, development Studies of Dhaka University. The key note speakers presented their research paper on indigenous people of Bangladesh. The speakers came up with their observations at the roundtable and said the government needs to strengthen its efforts to improve livelihood of the country’s indigenous community people living in the plainland for achieving SDG.
